Mechanical Design Engineer

Mechanical Design Engineer with experience of designing precision components for electro-mechanical machines, including fabrication is required on a contract employment basis for the Aylesbury area (commutable from the likes of Berkhamsted, Leighton Buzzard, Tring, Watford, Hemel Hempstead, A41, Buckinghamshire, Bucks, Hertfordshire, Herts etc.)

The business design high-end NDT (Non-Destructive Testing) machines that are used for inspection applications. These include standard packages with bespoke interfaces, as well as full bespoke machines.

The Mechanical Design Engineer will use CAD packages (such as Solidworks for 3D and AutoCAD for 2D). To design the precision machined components for these electro-mechanical machines. Materials wise there is a strong emphasis on steel fabrication work (particularly with tubular, sheet and bar), as well as precision machined aluminium. There will also be some plastics involved.

Within the Design Department you will be one of a small handful of Engineers who specialise in the mechanical elements of the products. This includes the working with close tolerances (GD&T), designing for manufacture (DFM) and to cost. Particular areas of interest are with persons who have designed parts such as manipulators, bearings, drives, and supports and to be able to describe the methodology (as well as mechanics) as to why they have designed something in the way they have to ensure best fit for purpose.
