Job Title: Mechanical Design Engineer

Duration: 6 months rolling + extension

Rate: Negotiable

Location: Cheltenham

I am currently looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer to join a highly ambitious and expanding company based in the Cheltenham area.

Reporting to the Engineering Manager your main responsibilities will be to implement design from concept to completion, including the input of data into the MRP system. You will play an integral part within a unique group of highly experienced Mechanical Design Engineers and work for a company who value its employees.

Duties and responsibilities
Producing compliant designs that are economical and safe to manufacture, inspect/test and maintain whilst meeting the minimum standard of fit for purpose.
Mechanical design and draughting of assemblies and detail parts.
Producing drawings using 2D and 3D CAD.
Creation of parts lists and data entry into a database.
Materials and component selection.
Maintenance of effective records of design compliancy, technical calculations and source data.
Liaison with in-house production team, subcontractors and suppliers.

Working knowledge and experience
Designing and detailing mechanical, structures, enclosures and machinery.
Designing for ease of manufacture.
Machinery Directive.
Understanding ISO standards relevant to drawings and geometric tolerances, material and finish specifications.

Person Specification
Minimum ONC Mechanical Engineering or equivalent with at least 5 years' experience in a design and manufacturing environment.
Competent and proficient user of CAD; preferably SolidWorks 2010 onwards and AutoCAD.
Time served engineering apprenticeship advantageous.
Good communicator and ability to work as part of a design team.
Attention to detail with excellent data management and configuration control.
Motivated with a positive attitude and determination that task are accurately performed and completed on time.
Good office computer skills in Microsoft Word and Excel useful.
