Outsource UK Ltd is actively seeking to recruit a for a materials engineer for a contract role on behalf of a client.

THE JOB:

The Product Assurance Response Centre (PARC), part of Engineering Services based in Great Baddow, Chelmsford, is seeking a materials scientist/engineer to enhance its multidisciplinary team. PARC's activities include the provision of rapid technical troubleshooting services relating to components, production and processes, and "green issues", across a broad range of industrial operations including avionics, sensors, shipbuilding, aircraft manufacture, sonar systems, radar, and energetic materials. The rapid resolution of technical issues in PARC is paramount in ensuring high performance, quality, value and competitiveness.

TYPICAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Provides rapid troubleshooting service relating to components, production and processes
- Ensures high performance, quality, value and competitiveness.
- Uses test and analytical equipment to ensure problems are solved in a timely fashion.
- Preparation of technical reports, test procedures, process specifications and other product documentation.
- Liaison with both internal and external customers, including travel and visits to Business Units as part of the rapid troubleshooting service.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

- Degree qualified (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline with some proven experience in a materials related role.
- Practical laboratory experience in measurement and test.
- A proven track record in a production or quality environment is preferable
- Extensive knowledge of materials properties, selection, processing and testing, ideally encompassing metals, polymers, ceramics and composites, adhesives and surface finishes and coatings.
- Possesses excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to use Microsoft office, particularly a good working knowledge of Word and Excel.
- Is able to work independently without close supervision.
- Membership of a recognised technical institute would be advantageous.
