Mass Cytometry Scientist/Cytof Operator

Mass cytometry (CyTOF) is an exciting cutting-edge technology for the acquisition of multi-parametric single cell data that combines the principles of flow cytometry with mass spectrometry. CyTOF (Cytometry by time-of-flight) is anticipated to provide significant benefit over established flow cytometry technologies through an increase in the number of parameters measured at enhanced resolution. This offers a unique opportunity to more fully analyze the panoply of quantitative changes in intracellular and membrane bound proteins that occur within complex cell populations in response to biological signals.

A position for a highly motivated scientist is available to be involved in the implementation of CyTOF at this company. The scientist will be responsible for the day-to-day technical operation, maintenance and troubleshooting of the CyTOF instrument. An integral part of the position will be working with biomarker scientists, cell biologists as well as the instrument manufacturer to optimize experimental design, data analysis and interpretation work streams aiding in CyTOF implementation.

RESPONSIBILITIES

- Daily operation, calibration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of new mass cytometry instrumentation.
- Help to establish experimental workflows for mass cytometry.
- Support cell biology experimentation and preparation of cells for CyTOF experiments.
- Perform conjugation of mass tags to staining antibodies used for mass cytometry.
- Support mass cytometry data analysis work streams and implementation of relevant bioinformatics infrastructure.
- Installation and initial testing of mass cytometry instrument.
- Comparison of mass cytometry with flow cytometry technology.
- Cell biology experimentation including antibody staining using lanthanide mass tags.
- Assist in analysis of multi-parametric CyTOF data.

SKILLS

QUALIFICATIONS, TECHNICAL SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

BS/MS level education in biochemistry, biology or chemistry or related fields required; advanced degree may be a plus. Industry experience in biopharma preferred. Extensive expertise in the operation and maintenance of flow cytometers and/or mass spectrometers required. Must have experience with basic and complex flow cytometry assays and a track record of method development skills particularly with novel and complex methods applied to cell biology questions. Must have a passion for performing computational analysis of multi-parametric datasets using sophisticated software tools. Must be able to work well both independently and as part of a team, with excellent collaborative skills and effective partnering skills in a Matrix-environment. Strong data organization and analysis skills also needed. Must have 4-7 years of experience in the following: analytical techniques, analytical equipment, assay studies, and mass spectrometry.

MOST CRITICAL:

Expertise in operation and maintenance of flow cytometers and/or mass spectrometers; experience with basic and complex flow cytometry assays. Track record of method development skills particularly with novel and complex methods applied to cell biology questions, industry experience in biopharma preferred.
