Manufacturing Engineer

Key Responsibilities

Address manufacturability and manufacturing issues including lead/participation in problem solving to assist rapid resolution. Initiation of design or specification changes as necessary.
Attend in house or sub-contract manufacturing locations as needed to provide support
Prepare support information and technical documentation as directed to support manufacturing and testing.
Review and interpretation of product design information and preparation in suitable formats for developing effective "manufacturing information" in view of critical design features and functions.
Review manufacturing plans to both identify and plan up-coming technical support potentially needed and to identify gaps in product information needed for the manufacturing and testing
Work closely with colleagues in the Design and Operational functions and operate CAD, Business and Quality software systems as needed to effectively perform the above.
Prepare reports and presentations as necessary to communicate manufacturing support actions and recommendations

Other Duties
Dependent on timing, participate in preparation or review of design briefs and specifications to provide input from the DFM/DFA and general manufacturing perspective.
Assist manufacturing, quality and logistics functions as necessary

Essential
Engineering qualification to at least HNC level
Experience working in a precision engineering manufacturing environment including exposure to geometric tolerancing
Has worked with complex mechanical assemblies with multi-level bills of material
Engineering change management
Working knowledge of purchasing procedures

Desirable
Engineering apprenticeship
Engineering degree
Training in problem solving, report writing,
FMEA techniques
Casting manufacture, machining
Product assembly and testing including automated testing
Heat treatment of steels, Finishing processes
Worked in an organisation working to at least ISO 9001 and preferably TS16949
Working knowledge of DFM/DFA and value engineering
Report writing
Line management/project management
