Mainframe IMS Application DBA

My client a leading Australian employer is looking for a Senior Technical Specialist-Mainframe IMS Application DBA top join their team on an initial 6 month contract basis with possibility of extension. The successful candidate will provide technical leadership, advice expertise and production support/delivery capabilities to the Mainframe IMS and DB2 environment.

Responsibilities of the role include:

- Provide strategic input to design and quality assurance of technology solutions.
- Confer with systems users to develop areas of change in requirements, which permit greater efficiency, systems integration or cost reduction
- Technical design, coordinating the work on systems and integrating new applications with existing systems and files
- Provide effective and efficient infrastructure support to customers
- Assist application support teams with performance tuning and troubleshooting in

the database space. - Support specific projects by providing expertise and technical assurance for key system components to support costing efforts and to ensure the integrity of design. Execute tasks associated with the discipline; so as to maintain the integrity and quality of the operating environment
- Ensure processes are in place for the analysis and provision of training and or capability enhancement initiatives
- Continually evaluate working practices and procedures to help the implementation of cost effective methodologies for high quality technology developments
- Administer IMS Fast Path and Full Function application environment and various tools for managing them.
- Provide leadership and strategic advice on end to end Database Application Solutions for Technology projects
- Delivery of production applications with robust design that meets performance, integrity, security and recoverability by working closely with application development teams.
- Assist in delivery of 3rd party applications by working with external vendors and client staff.
- Availability for out of hours scheduled work such as changes and systems implementations.
- Liaison with project managers, customers and vendors.
- Provide consultancy to other technical and project teams in regard to technical issues pertaining to database environments.
- Develop and maintain implementation, configuration and maintenance policies and standards
- Identify opportunities for continuous improvement in work practices
- Database monitoring and tuning as required.
- Execution of major and minor database work requests related to the projects.

The ideal candidate will have the following:

- 10+ years experience in IT
- 5+ years experience with: IMS Fast Path DBA,IMS Full Function DBA,IMS Utilities,IMS and DB2 Recovery and Restart.IMS and DB2 Performance Management,DB2 z/OS DBA,CICS VSAM,Omegamon,Model204,Problem Diagnosis (Complex),Batch operations
- In addition to IMS Fast Path/Full Function application DBA skills, demonstrated experience with at least two, of the following areas of technical expertise:
- DB2 z/OS
- IBM/BMC management tools
- CICS VSAM
- M204
- Objectstar
- Supra/Mantis
- z/OS
