Responsibilities
The Technician is responsible for the advanced configuration and operating system upgrades of Carrier-Class Cisco and Juniper equipment that tie together a complex, multivendor nationwide data network. The Technician will plan, prioritize, and schedule maintenance window changes with many groups both inside and outside the office with minimum supervision during the daytime and then implement these changes during scheduled maintenance windows while adhering to corporate standards. Equipment that is to be worked on includes but is not limited to Carrier-Class Cisco Routers running IOS and IOS-XR, and Carrier-Class Juniper Routers.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities
Implement configuration changes and operating system upgrades on various Carrier-Class Cisco and Juniper data networking equipment using procedures written by both an internal engineering group and outside vendors.
The work is done in parallel with other internal groups.
Utilize network monitoring software tools, during maintenance windows, to ensure that all monitored network equipment is functioning in accordance with company standards and policies, both before and after changes are made.
Engages in both intra and interdepartmental communication to plan, schedule, prioritize, and prepare for said maintenance window activities.

Qualifications
Associates Degree in a related field or a two year technical degree in a related field (ie - Data Networking, Computer Science, etc).
Relevant, extensive experience of at least five years within a tier two network operations environment that looked after large, complex data networks is required.
Demonstrated real world, hands-on, experience working with data networking gear and troubleshooting data networking problems involving: TCP/IP, BGP, MP-BGP, OSPF, MPLS, IPv4, IPv6, L2VPN, L3VPN, SIP, and other LAN/WAN technologies and concepts (route redistribution, subnetting, etc.).
Experience working with the following network monitoring and deployment tools is preferred: C.A.'s E-Health, and Cisco NCM/ANA/ISC.
Experience with following methods of procedure and other documentation. A knack for paying CLOSE attention to details and not just glossing over them is a desirable quality.
Experience with planning for multiple technical projects AND implementing them by working with people using multiple lines of communications (phone, e-mail, face to face, etc.) in order to deliver them on time.
Must have the ability to clearly communicate ideas in order to lead phone calls to implement changes and thoroughly test for any residual issues afterwards during maintenance window hours.
Experience with having a good understanding of the unique challenges that come from working on data networks that power modern cellular networks (1xRTT, Ev-DO, LTE, etc.) is desirable.
Proven problem solving and leadership abilities are a definite plus.
Must have a strong work ethic and work extremely well in a team environment.
Must be able to easily adapt to inconsistent work hours that sometimes include the weekends.
Essential to have strong verbal and written communication skills.
