FUNCTIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

SYSTEMS ADMINISTRATOR/ENGINEER to provide support of complex systems running Redhat Linux and Microsoft Windows. Expertise on any of the following operating systems is also a plus; Tru64 UNIX, Sun Solaris and OpenVMS. Candidate must be able to function with limited direction and guidance and be able to diagnose a wide variety of problems. Candidate must possess excellent customer relation and communication skills. Candidate must demonstrate a high level of understanding regarding established Verizon Business practices and procedures. Candidate must be able to accurately assess problems and if necessary communicate the problem information to vendors and drive vendor to a successful resolution. Candidate must be able to work in a team environment, demonstrate leadership skills and be able to mentor junior engineers both technically and follow established business practices and guidelines. Candidate must possess the following technical skills; VMWare, clustering concepts, san storage, HP hardware, Dell hardware (Sun hardware and IBM hardware optional).

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS:
5+ years progressive, technical, job-related experience. The candidate for this position works on complex problems where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of various factors. Exercises judgment within broadly defined practices and policies in selecting methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria for obtaining results. Receives minimal instructions on recurrent work assignments and only general instructions on new or more complex assignments. Some of the candidate's decisions will be made independently and will typically affect the work of others. Typically determines methods and procedures on new assignments and provides guidance and assistance to peers.
