Background
Our client has an 8 month contract to start ASAP, this role is based in Brighton. Key tasks. To provide litigation advice to the Defined Benefit Regulation Team about contentious or potentially contentious regulatory cases. To advise on how to mitigate the public law risk in relation to contentious or potentially contentious cases. To advise to the Defined Benefit Regulation Team on the conduct of the litigation of contentious cases including managing paralegal support where appropriate. To ensure that cases presented to the Determinations Panel and other legal forums are legally robust

Main Duties/Responsibilities
Core accountabilities.
Providing risk-based legal advice to the Defined Benefit Regulation Team and other operational areas of the business. Providing legal advice. Analysing information to provide legal advice and contributing to the development of case strategies. Advising the Defined Benefit Regulation Team on cases to help achieve case objectives. Providing legal advice and support in the preparation of cases to be handed over to the Determinations Panel. Providing legal advice and support on cases referred to the Upper Tribunal or appealed to the Court of Appeal or higher Courts. Sharing knowledge of law, best practice and successful interventions with peers and across The Pensions Regulator as may be required. Contributing to knowledge management process. Liaising with internal and external professional communities

Skills/Experience Required
Essential criteria.
Qualified Lawyer with ideally 5 years experience with current Practising Certificate for the UK. Experienced in commercial or regulatory litigation. Knowledge of public law. Experienced in instructing Counsel and working closely with Counsel. Preferred some knowledge of - Pension Schemes Act 1993, Pensions Act 1995, Pensions Act 2004, Pensions Act 2008 and related legislation. Knowledge of principles of good regulation and best practice. Awareness of pensions environment strategic trends and issues (desirable). A working knowledge of FOI/DPA legislation. Strong all-round communication skills. Ability to organise, plan and manage

Formal Qualifications Required
Qualified Lawyer with practising certificate

The ideal candidate will have worked in regulatory environments before and have excellent experience of advising on litigation strategy.
