Linux/VMware Systems Administrator, Redhat, Vsphere

My client a world leading organisation is currently looking for an experienced Linux and VMware Systems Administrator to be responsible for effective provisioning, installation/configuration, operation, and maintenance of systems, hardware, software, and related infrastructure.

The core responsibility of the role will be to maintain and further develop the Linux infrastructure and support 2nd/3rd level Linux related incidents. You will have excellent knowledge of Linux in Large Scale Enterprise, Managed Services and/or Internet hosting environments. You will also be responsible for supporting and managing the ongoing design and build of the virtual environment.

As the successful Linux and VMware Systems Administrator you will be involved in the: -

- Design, build, configure, manage and support a hosted multi-server infrastructure using Linux and VMware
- Testing, debugging and troubleshooting of platform level problems
- Working alongside application development teams, supporting and advising on best practice to maintain
- Migrating RedHat Enterprise Linux versions 5/6 to RedHat Enterprise Linux 7

EXPERIENCE & TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE

- Experience in a demanding 24x7 high availability environment
- In-depth knowledge of RedHat Enterprise Linux versions 5, 6 and 7
- Configuring, deploying and managing a virtual server infrastructure using VMware, Vsphere
- Monitoring an enterprise infrastructure, log aggregation, SNMP traps and monitoring software
- Monitoring and benchmarking performance for OS and storage platforms
- Strong Scripting skills
- Understanding of data centre operations
- Online payments or financial transaction expertise is highly desirable
- Familiar with Microsoft server platform and Citrix a strong plus
- Performance tuning and scalability
- Familiarity with HA solutions, failover/redundancy, etc.
- Familiarity with VMWare (5.0 and above), VMware, vSphere/vCenter
- Configuration management tools (Puppet or similar)
- Monitoring systems (Nagios/cacti)
- Knowledge of at a common Scripting language (Perl, Python, Ruby)
- Java infrastructure components - Tomcat etc
- Experience with development tools - git, svn, packaging tools (dpkg, rpm)
