Location: Atlanta, GA (downtown)
Start Date: ASAP
Duration: 6months + (common to see people here for multiple years on contract)

This contractor position is on the UNIX/Linux Systems Support team within the Infrastructure Services department in IT. This position is responsible for the daily tactical and strategic support of my Fortune 500 client's Linux and UNIX server infrastructure environment. Including installation, configuration, life cycle management, problem resolution and ongoing support of all UNIX and Linux Servers (both physical and virtual), while understanding and adhering to appropriate compliance processes and controls. The position focuses on the daily work required to operate the server environment with maximum availability and efficiency and requires specific operating knowledge of our server environment, which includes server virtualization and clustering. On call rotation is required for this position.

Skills and Abilities

- Server administration skills, including the ability to understand, administer and provide tactical operational support of complex virtualized and clustered environments and Linux and UNIX server platforms. Ability to provide Tier 2 and Tier 3 support for server operating system, hardware or clustering problems, including a broad understanding of the infrastructure environment and the interactions between the server and other components in that environment.
- Ability to comprehend and support virtualized Linux server environments, including support and management of both the physical host and the virtual Servers and hypervisors, including server resource allocation and management at the physical and virtual server levels.
- Ability to quickly learn new concepts and technologies and transition knowledge & skillsets to new situations.
- Strong analytical and trouble-shooting skills.
- Professional oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to effectively organize tasks, manage multiple tasks, adapt quickly to changing priorities, meet schedules, and deliver on customer commitments.

Knowledge and Experience

- BA/BS in Computer Science, Engineering, MIS or related work experience desired.
- A minimum of five (5) years server and technical problem resolution experience in a complex infrastructure environment required.
- A minimum of two (2) years' experience working with Linux server operating systems including installation, configuration and support (including vendor coordination and liaison) required. RedHat Linux and Oracle Linux experience desired.
- Linux systems administration certification desired.
- Strong knowledge and experience with dell Servers, including chassis and blade server support and configuration.
- A minimum of two (2) years Linux server virtualization experience desired, including experience managing and supporting physical hosts, virtual guests and hypervisors, through management GUIs and command line administration. Specific product experience desired includes VMWare.
- Knowledge and support experience with Middleware desired, specific components: Apache, Weblogic, Tomcat, Oracle Application Server, WebSphere.
- Experience with SAN storage technologies, including multi-pathing and thin provisioning and how those technologies are used within the server environment a plus.
- Experience with networking Firewall rules and interaction of Servers in an n-tier environment a plus.
- Working knowledge of Veritas products, including storage foundation, volume manager and cluster server.
- Understanding of network protocols, including DNS, NFS, SMTP, SNMP.
