Linux Technical Analyst - Research Environment

RESPONSIBILITIES

- Define, implement, and support the Linux systems within Research sites supporting instrumentation, analysis, laboratory, and computational activities.
- Work with team leaders to implement and support research specific applications and data for Linux systems in a workgroup or centralized environment.
- Ensure continuing operation of the supporting systems and applications.
- Partner with peers at other locations and with the Research Site and Infrastructure and Solutions Delivery groups.
- Respond to Linux hardware and software support.
- Work with scientists on laboratory systems and vendor coordination.
- Liaise with other research organizations as needed
- Understand and implement best practices and change management in a research environment
- Provides excellent customer service and clear communication.

SKILLS

- Must have deep technical understanding and experience with 64 bit Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5/6 operating system.
- Administration experience with various directory services and network storage supporting Linux in a research environment (LDAP, NIS,
- Centrify DirectControl/Active Directory, NAS, SAN, etc.) is required.
- Must have experience in Linux Workstation support including installing and configuring peripherals (monitors, GPUs, etc), as well as Linux system troubleshooting. Intermediate skills in Perl and Unix also needed.
- Deep technical understanding of hardware platforms supporting operating systems (disk, network, bios, graphics, etc) is essential.
- Strong written and verbal communication and customer service skills are a must.
- Self-motivation and ability to work without supervision on daily tasks and projects are both needed.
- Must have proficiency with system administration, system and network security, programming and Scripting languages, development tools and methodology, and system management.
- The ability to collaborate effectively with scientists and developers across departmental boundaries to solve problems in a Matrix environment is required.
- Must have programming ability in one of the following: C, Perl, Python, or UNIX Shell.
- Must be an excellent master of technical skills required to support research centric data and application needs.
- MUST HAVE 4+ YEARS RELATED EXPERIENCE (AT THE INTERMEDIATE LEVEL).
