Linux Systems Admin - Contract

Our London Ontario client requires 2 intermediate Linux Systems Administrators for minimum 3-6 month contracts starting immediately.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND COMPETENCIES:

- Degree in computer science or equivalent work experience. Three to five years of Unix/Linux system administration experience

TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS

- Comfortable with most aspects of operating system administration; for example, configuration of mail systems, system installation and configuration, printer systems, fundamentals of security, installing third-party software
- Solid understanding of a Unix-based operating system; understand paging and swapping, inter-process communication, devices and what device drivers do, filesystem concepts (inode, clustering, logical partitions)
- Familiarity with fundamental networking/distributed computing environment concepts; can configure NFS, NIS/NIS+, LDAP, automounter, DNS/BIND, license managers; can use nslookup or dig to check information in DNS and understand basic routing concepts
- Ability to install, upgrade and patch operating systems
- Performance management and testing at an OS and database level
- Ability to write scripts in some administrative language (csh, sh, ksh, bash, Perl shells)
- Ability to do minimal debugging in modification of C programs
- Experience with one or more of the following Linux operating systems - RedHat Enterprise, Suse, Mandrake, CentOS
- Experience with internetworking non-similar operating systems (eg Unix, Windows)
- Experience with network storage solutions (eg SANS/NAS)
- Experience with host security (eg passwords, uids/gids, SIDs, file permissions, ACLs, filesystem integrity, use of security packages)
- Experience with X11 (X-Windows_ and X -Terminals
