Linux System Engineers

Profs4U is looking for multiple Linux System Engineers for a large Pan-European Project,
Contract period of 6 months with multiple extensions possible, Work location the Hague & Munich,
Starting 01/07/2014. 40 hours per week, Excellent daily rates,
Closing date 13/06/2014 - 12:00.

For an international client we are looking for multiple Linux System Engineers with 3-5 years knowledge on SuSE Linux Enterprise Server (SLES) system engineering and administration in a large multicultural organisation.

TASKS:
- Day-to-day support to application developers and application owners including major applications at the Client
- Performance analysis and tuning of applications and systems
- Analysis and design of new sub-systems
- Analysis of Kernel dump
- Take part of regular system updates and system patching
- Root cause analysis of issues in the interface between operating system and the underlying hardware (physical and virtual hardware).
- OpenLDAP design and daily maintenance
- Take part of the POW rota covering incidents and ad-hoc tasks assigned to the Unix System team
- Take part of the on-call rota covering on-call during nights and week-ends. It is expected that the Contractor should cover for 2 out of 7 weeks in a rota of 7 weeks.
- Document any relevant information about systems and applications gained
- Transfer of knowledge to the client staff
- Attend regular progress meetings
- Perform any other tasks assigned by the responsible client manager

MANDATORY QUALIFICATIONS:
- At least 5 years proven experience of SuSE Linux Enterprise Server (SLES) system engineering and system administration
- At least 3 years proven experience of running Linux as virtual guests on VMware
- At least 3 years proven experience of running Linux as virtual guests on z/VM
- Proven experience of running Linux as virtual guests on Xen
- Proven experience of tuning of applications, in particular of advanced search engines.
- Proven experience with IBM GPFS
- Proven experience in debugging issues in the interface between operating system, virtual machines and hardware
- At least 5 years proven experience of system engineering and system administration of OpenLDAP
- At least 5 years proven experience of system engineering and system administration of SAN storage devices on virtualised Servers
- A thorough understanding of HA concepts

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience of AIX version 6.1 system engineering and system administration
- Experience with ITIL change, incident and problem management
- Experience with the system engineering support of the major application systems of the Client
- Ability to work independently as well as in a team

Working Languages are English and or German, Dutch and French are a bonus.
