Linux System Engineer

We are seeking a talented and highly motivated System Engineer to join the Hardware Engineering Software Tools team. The responsibilities include contributing to development of the provisioning stack in order to make newly-qualified versions of firmware available for automatic update to the fleet, writing scripts to automate testing and release processes, building and maintaining test fleets, performing functional and regression testing on new software builds, defining and performing stress/capacity testing, and managing/monitoring production software deployments. We are looking for someone who is good at system level Scripting to help automate these tasks as we continue to move to fully-automated testing and releases. We want someone who understands how to scale fleets as well as dive deep into troubleshooting problems that arise.

This infrastructure team supports fleet-wide telemetry and software tools for the server platform for our client's innovative web service and E-commerce technology platforms. This platform is industry-leading in terms of frugality and operational excellence, and is critical to the success of large scale business and thousands of customers who use utility computing today.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

- Linux system administration, monitoring, hardware failure diagnosis/root cause analysis, firmware updates, software package and repository management
- Bash, Bourne, and/or Korn Shell Scripting experience
- Strong system troubleshooting skills
- Demonstrable grasp of security best practices in server configuration, tool development, and access controls
- Experience deploying and operating Linux or other UNIX variants in a data center environment
- Scripting experience in Perl, Python, or Ruby
- Programming skills in C, C++ or Java a plus
- Experience in building SQL queries
- Relentless passion for frugality and out-of-the-box engineering
- Understanding of standard Internet protocols (Ethernet, ARP, IP, ICMP, UDP, TCP, SSL, DNS, HTTP, etc.)

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

- Knowledge of VCS (GIT, mercurial, SVN)
- Understanding of AWS
- Experience deploying or managing Servers in large-scale, geographically diverse environments
- Understanding and experience of managing and monitoring large scale disk sub-systems
- Operational knowledge of common enterprise switching and routing platforms
- Local candidates

This contract position is expected to be 7 months in duration.
