Linux Support Engineer/Specialist - Linux, JVM, Postgres, SQL

This is a 3-6 month contract role supporting the roll-out of a new Java application within a small, but global organisation. After roll out, the Linux position will grow into future development, monitoring and maintenance as well as support for users.

Role is based in Central London.
Up to £350/day. 3-6 month contract.

Key technology exp needed: Linux, JVM, DBA (Postgres)

Desirable: Hadoop, Jenkins, Docker, Apache Mesos

Key Skills and Experience

- Significant development experience in Open Source Technologies - specifically Linux/Java.
- Proven background in Linux Sys Admin (full stack experience required).
- Proven experience in Rational DBA - Postgres is ideal, JVM, cloud computing and virtual networking.
- Understanding of microservice architecture.
- Working knowledge of Hadoop, Docker and/or Apache Mesos is desirable
- Experience with configuration management tools (eg: Puppet, Ansible)
- Previous use of Jenkins (Java) would be highly desirable.
- Experienced in supporting and working with Postgres SQL
- An excellent track record in providing trouble-shooting and support services.
- An understanding of how different technologies can interact, and how they can be utilised together to maximise performance.
- Strong time-management skills to deliver projects on time.
- Understanding of Application Lifecycle Development, Project Management and Process Management methodologies
- Prince 2 or PMBOK (exposure to either is preferable) and working in an Agile environment.
- ITIL Process Management a qualification is desirable.

Key responsibilities of the role are to:

- To act in a 2nd and 3rd line support capacity for the business, as part of a trusted advisor and go to team for escalations with the application.
- Continual monitoring of the core application to ensure continuity of service and data input.
- Develop and support QA, stage and production environments for the development team
- Work on identifying future development and improvement opportunities for the application.
- Manage and support additional LEMP Servers hosting the corporate website and other applications
- Ensure that technical documentation is kept up to date and relevant.
- Liaise closely with senior stakeholders about performance of application.
- Ensure the deployment of Bug Fixes, Change Request and Development activities on time to a high quality and accuracy by driving continued service improvement.
