Linux Platform Specialist - DV Cleared

Required for our Central Government client based London Due to the nature of the post preference will be given to those that hold valid DV clearance.

Role:

Linux Platform Specialist, An exciting opportunity for an experienced Linux engineer to work in a large organisation with datacentre technologies at the forefront of cloud, virtualisation and "big data" management.

Due to continued growth and demand for services we have an urgent requirement for a senior engineer to join the Engineering Development team focussing on the development of enterprise Linux platforms across the various systems the team is responsible for.

Job Summary:

To design the evolution of Linux platforms and services in response to requirements from support teams and business projects. The role holder will own the technical designs and act as the technical 'custodian' of the Linux estate.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Strategic Platform Development

* Ensure that the compute platform roadmaps for Linux technologies are updated and maintained every 6 months with the technical architects
* Deliver the Linux products/ uplifts identified in the roadmap on time in order to meet expected availability dates for business customers
* Ensure that the Linux products are maintained at firmware or version levels supports by the manufacturers or suppliers
* As the principle Design Authority you will maintain the documentation sets (High Level Design, Low level Design, Configuration and Build/ Admin Guides) for Linux products and services, and authorise any changes to these documents
* Provide technical direction, bets practice guidance and training as required to the provisioning and support teams

Project Work

* As the Principal Design Authority you will also be responsible for the development and assurance of non-standard provisioning requests on Linux (design, documentation, build, test and live service transition)
* Provide subject matter expertise to architects and planners as they seek to accurately capture project requirements (including Impact Assessment and reviews of Project Technical documentation sets)
* Ensure that all Linux products and services are delivered according to agreed standards and best practice

Qualification/ Experience Required:

* Red Hat Certified Engineer RHCE (E)
* Red Hat Certificates in Clustering, Server Hardening, Security, Authentication, Identity Management, Performance Tuning, JBoss Administration, Data Centre (D)
* Extensive experience of designing and producing Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 and 6 builds to CESG accredited standards
* Configuration, deployment build update through Red Hat Satellite Server
* Configuration of FHEL services such as Clustering, NFS, SMB, SSH, FTP
* Shell Scripting
* Experience of Red Hat Platform as a Service (PaaS) of Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) offerings, such as OpenStack or Cloud Forms
* Experience of configuration and management of middleware platforms on RHEL, e.g. Weblogic, Websphere &JBoss
* Advanced Puppet experience of configuration management tolls and scripting
* Further experience of Virtualisation platforms, IBM AIX, Windows Server or Oracle administration/ configuration would be advantageous
* Knowledge of cloud infrastructure and services, e.g. AWS
