Linux Platform Engineer

Our client, a leading Consulting, Technology and Outsourcing company are currently recruiting for an experienced Linux Platform Engineer for a contract based in the UK and Dublin.
The initial week to ten days will be spend in the UK and then the remainder of the assignment will be spent in Dublin. Accommodation during the week will be expensed plus any flights/travel that is necessary.
The Platform team, as part of the IS Hosting Team are responsible for defining, maintaining and supporting the standard operating platforms on which our client runs their applications, which currently number in excess of 4000 OS instances, as well as core supporting infrastructure such as DNS, NTP, MS Exchange, LDAP and Active Directory.
The successful candidate will report to the Platform Manager. They will focus in the execution of operational and project tasks, ensuring the stability of our client's environments. The candidate must be used to working in always-on, mission-critical environments and using ITIL-based tools to manage workflow. You will be expected to bring good technical and strong problem solving skills to the role, and be capable of solving complex technical issues as part of a team. You will also be relied on to identify operational risks and opportunities, and ensure they are correctly noted. You will be required to create and maintain clear and concise documentation, and communicate effectively with colleagues both inside the Hosting Division and beyond to help us achieve our client achieve their goals.
Key Responsibilities
- 24 x 7 Operational support of the estate, including on-call.
- Delivery of infrastructure and business project tasks to a high standard.
- Input into team and infrastructure capacity reporting tasks, via Scrum and Kanban.
- Recognise and remediate issues and risks within the estate.
- Adhere to and maintain documentation and standards, including design documents and risk registers.
- Adhere and maintain network and company standards and documentation, including risk registers, design, documents and asset lists.
Essential Skills & Experience
You should be skilled in the following technologies:
- Linux
- DNS (internal and external) and hosting principles LDAP Active Directory
- RHEL 5.x and 6.x (RHCSA or higher preferred)
- CentOS 5.x and 6.x Spacewalk, Cobbler and Puppet
- MS Windows Server 2003 and 2008 (MCSE Preferred)
- SCOM/SCCM 2007 R2 Hyper-V
You must also be able to:
- Perform troubleshooting and resolution of complex problems
- Take on project deliverables as directed
- Enable of our 24 x 7 support via on-call as required
- Work as part of a multidisciplinary team to deliver seamless solutions
DESIRABLE SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
- Demonstrable experience working in mission-critical environments
- Xen Virtualisation RPM and packaging/build tools
- Dell Hardware (R610, R710)
- Veritas Cluster Suite
- Infoblox Appliance knowledge
- PHP/Perl knowledge GIT Python NFS, especially via NetApp Filers
- Nagios (Opsview) Splunk
- SharePoint 2010
- MS Exchange Server 2010
- OCS 2007
