Linux Administrator needed for a long term project in Belgium!
Overall purpose
The Linux administrator will be part of the Local System Administrator (LSA) team who manages the OLAF's IT infrastructure. Although the main task of the LSA will be managing the Linux server environment and the supporting services the successful candidate will also participate to other normal tasks performed by the team (storage management, database management, backup routines ...).
Functions and duties
Maintain current Linux installation
OLAF currently has a small base of Linux systems for Oracle databases and other specific applications. The LSA shall ensure that these Servers are installed according to industry and EU Commission standards, that they are available according to the relevant SLA and are always up-to-date with respect to security patches. The LSA shall take care of all housekeeping activities such as backups, automating installations, health checks, performance checks, and monitoring.
Enlarge the Linux server base to host a Documentum installation
OLAF will be implementing the Documentum software suite which will be used for OLAF's next document management platform. This suite of applications will be running on a (much larger than today) number of virtualized Linux Servers. The Linux LSA shall participate in building the environments (test, acceptance and production), and setting up the systems in accordance to the availability requirements. S(he) will properly document the installation and maintenance procedures.
Maintain specific applications
The Linux administrator should also be able to maintain a number of business applications used within OLAF. This responsibility is expected to increase over time as the candidate acquires the necessary knowledge. Some of the applications will be Linux based but the majority of the system administration tools will be Windows based, and the Linux administrator will be expected to also use these tools.
ColdFusion support
The candidate shall have knowledge and experience in the installation, configuration, and maintenance of a ColdFusion development environment (for the support of OLAF Legacy applications). This responsibility requires a good understanding of OLAF applications requirements.
Oracle DBA
In addition to the above, the candidate shall be responsible for the maintenance of the Oracle databases within OLAF. This includes performing daily monitoring and management tasks for the Oracle databases, responding to requests from the business and supporting the developers.
Job requirements
Knowledge and experience
OLAF requires a minimum of 14 years of relevant and proven experience with Linux (preferably Red Hat) and Oracle administration. Experience and understanding of networked virtual environments using either a Linux hypervisor or Hyper-V from Microsoft is a must. Further experience in networking and/or storage systems is desirable.
Although the main focus of this job will be Linux and Oracle administration, some basic knowledge of Microsoft Windows server 2008 and 2012 will be needed, eg applying group policies in an Active Directory, scheduling tasks, monitoring events and performance counters.
ColdFusion support experience is a must.
The candidate must be willing to learn the basic functions of Documentum in order to support this application (installation, configuration, operation).
The team works in shifts to cover the opening hours from 7:30 until 18:30 the Linux LSA shall be part of this routine.
