Lifeguard

BASIC FUNCTION: Provide the necessary supervision of the pool water and the pool users to ensure the safest, cleanest and most user-friendly environment.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

ESSENTIAL

- Monitor and maintain a clean and safe pool area, including the enforcement of all safety rules and regulations for the pool and ensuring that all life-saving equipment is in proper order and location.  SAFETY IS #1 PRIORITY.
- Perform emergency water-rescue techniques to assist persons in distress, applies CPR, and administers first aid when necessary.
- Check passes of residents. (Keeping in mind lifeguarding and safety are first priority).
- The Lifeguard has the authority to take whatever actions and make whatever decisions necessary to ensure the effective pool operation as long as such actions and decisions do not conflict with any specific established policies and procedures of the Company and client.
- Authority shall be granted to stop any process or activity that is unsafe or represents a safety hazard until such time as the condition is corrected with prior approval from the District Manager and/or HWW office.
- Adhere to American Red Cross, Hastings Water Works, and assigned pool's policies and procedures.
- Always be on the lookout for potential safety hazards.
- Lock and secure facility upon closing.  In cases where members may swim when guard is not on duty, the guard will announce his/her departure and secure the facility.
- Always maintain chlorine and pH readings at appropriate health code levels.
- Check water chemistry and record readings every four (4) hours.
- Complete all required reports in an accurate and timely manner.
- Maintain a positive Company relationship and image with the clients and patrons
- Always be in uniform
- Always be on time

ANCILLARY

- Ensure that the pool area is maintained according to Hastings Water Works, Inc. standards for cleanliness.
- Cleaning tiles around pool edge.
- Vacuuming pool daily as needed.
- Cleaning bathhouse daily, and inspect it each hour
- Replenishing supplies in bathhouse.
- Emptying trash receptacles.
- Straighten deck furniture every break.
- Ensure the cleanliness, neatness, and orderliness of all equipment and facilities.
- May teach swim lessons, if internally certified
- Perform other duties as assigned.

- Familiarity with pool operations

EDUCATION/TRAINING

ESSENTIAL

- High School Diploma/GED or in process of obtaining
- American Red Cross Lifeguarding and First Aid Certification
- American Red Cross CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer Certification

PREFERRED

- Lifeguard Instructor certification
- Re-certifications may be obtained after being hired for the job and must be maintained while employed in the job.

EXPERIENCE

ESSENTIAL

- No previous experience required

PREFERRED

- One summer season as a Lifeguard at an aquatic facility that has American Red Cross Certified Lifeguards
