Our client is the European Champion in missiles and missile systems. The Warheads Group at Lostock is responsible for the specification, design, modelling, assessment and testing of conventional warheads and lethal packages. It is part of the Lethality and Warheads Department supports an international capability in this domain across the UK, France, Italy and Germany.

The department activities include: evolution of new design technology to meet customers' emerging requirements for enhanced performance, versatility, safety and affordable cost; development of in-house domain expertise; Design Authority to support warheads through the full product life cycle from concept to end of service-life.

We are looking for an experienced, capable and proactive engineer to work at Lostock, on innovative new and evolutions of existing warheads, covering internal, national and international programmes and research activities.

Type of Activities
* Responsible to the Head of UK Warheads for activities covering warhead design, evaluation, assessment and testing throughout the product life cycle.
* Application of systems engineering principles; requirements capture and flow-down, sub-system, component and material specification.
* Planning programmes of work to meet customer requirements. Definition of Technical Requirements and Statements of Work to be undertaken by other departments and subcontractors.
* Conduct and management of engineering activities undertaken in-house and by subcontractors such as design studies, modelling and simulation, testing and trials. Synthesis of data to provide appropriate information and documentation.
* Participation in multi-national and multi-organisational projects in UK and Europe.
* Development of a high level of personal domain expertise of conventional warhead technology and energetic materials, design standards and practices. Application of expertise to internal, external and international company business.
* Provide innovation into the domain in anticipation of emerging needs and in response to external influences. Participate in and lead research programmes.
* Represent client in the Ordnance, Munitions and Explosives domain, developing national/international contact networks and attending symposia with defence/industry co-operation bodies.
* Work closely with client project teams, plus close liaison with MoD and research agency technical expertise.

Candidate Experience:
* Engineering experience in detailed design of defence & aerospace products, particularly but not essentially munitions and explosive devices.
* Effective and demonstrable analytical and problem solving skills.
* Good written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills supported by office IT software skills.
* Desirable, but not essential, to have knowledge and experience of computer aided design tools, design for manufacture for defence & aerospace equipment, finite element modelling tools, semi-empirical models & mathematical toolboxes, test methods for explosive devices & materials.
* Understanding of project and budget management, and proven ability to work to tight timescales, within financial and technical constraints.
* Experience of working with sub-contractors, suppliers and MoD customers.
* Understanding of the product life cycle for defence equipment.
* Knowledge of weapon systems and the armed forces.
* Understanding of cultural sensitivity.
* Capability to travel in the UK and Europe on a regular basis.
