ROLE: Legal/Business Analyst - Retail Banking - Asset Management - Regulatory Change - Edinburgh - £440/day

OVERVIEW

Our client, a major UK retail bank, requires the services of a Legal Analyst/Lawyer or alternatively a Business Analyst who has had experience of providing legal advice on new financial regulations and creating new business processes that ensure compliance. This Project will undertake the necessary steps to ensure the bank remains compliant with the new FCA handbook that will be published following the FSA split.

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

- Provide efficient, effective and competent legal service and support to SWIP, including:-
- Investment management and advisory agreements
- Fund structures and documentation
- Platform and distribution agreements
- Asset management outsourcing, services and IT/IP agreements
- Buy-side investment-related agreements and advice
- Custody agreements
- Asset management operational activities (eg account opening)
- Support regulatory projects by acting as the principal legal resource to include understanding and advising on the application of new and complex regulatory provisions to the business model
- Effectively manage the performance and cost of external legal advisers
- Report risks and issues which are identified in the course of duties
- Adhere to processes and controls for mitigating risk and minimising loss, including Legal Team processes and procedures

CORE SKILLS

- Experienced Legal Analyst/Lawyer/Business Analyst with a strong background in investment/asset management and regulatory change.
- The Business Analyst will have experience engaging with a wide range of stakeholders to elicit business requirements and translate them into "future state" processes that will ensure regulatory compliance against a range of initiatives.
- The business analyst will have experience of dealing with third party service provides, such as depository partners and external legal advisers.

DESIRABLE SKILLS

TECHNICAL/LEGAL SKILLS

- Knowledge of laws and regulations affecting fund management companies
- Familiarity with common fund structures and their legal framework
- Ability to identify relevant legal issues and devise appropriate legal solutions
- An understanding of the Dodd-Frank/Volcker reform act preferred but not essential
- Legal drafting
- Effective negotiating skills

COMMERCIAL AWARENESS

- Knowledge of commercial and operational issues affecting the fund management environment

COMMUNICATION SKILLS

- Ability to present technical information clearly and concisely

MANAGEMENT

- Management of external lawyers so as to ensure quality of delivery, within budget and timescales
