Job Description
Project Engineer required to co-ordinate teams of mechanical, electrical, electronics hardware, and software engineers in the design of products for the food inspection industry. The role leads the technical development aspects of numerous concurrent projects managing progress on a day to day basis.

* Review specifications of all new customer orders entering the business to assess feasibility.
* Support bids for new business through technical advice to Sales teams.
* Review customer standards to assess compliance and advise on deviations.
* Gather customer requirements to ensure needs are fully understood.
* Be customer facing when required (supporting bids or delivering projects).
* Have change control of Bills of Materials and ensure Engineering Change Process is adhered to.
* Be responsible for all technical aspects on each project.
* Coordinate different engineering functions on each project.
* Communicate across all business functions (Sales, Manufacturing, Quality, Service, Purchasing, Finance, etc)
* Manage technical risks and issues.
* Develop and manage test plans for new designs.
* Assist design engineers with applications engineering and testing.
* Support Sales, Marketing and Service teams with technical queries.
* Support Manufacturing team to ensure successful build of new products.
* Be hands-on with product designs when required.

Prerequisites
* Degree qualified in a relevant engineering discipline (eg Mechanical, Electrical, Automotive, Aero, Manufacturing, Design).
* Some experience of a stage/gate product development methodology (eg V-Model) would be an advantage.
* Experience of delivering successful products to market.
* Experience of coordinating different engineering functions (mechanical CAD designers, electrical, electronics and software engineers) to deliver products to meet customer requirements.
* Significant experience in the design of products with both mechanical and electrical/electronic elements.
* Good knowledge of materials and manufacturing processes.
* Experience of product testing an advantage (EMC, environmental, vibration, durability, software validation).
* Use of DFMEA and consideration of Design for Manufacture in the development of new products.
* Focus consistently on delivery. Escalates appropriately to resolve issues.
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to interface with all parts of the business internally and with customers and suppliers.
* Understanding of financial business cases.
* Excellent problem solving ability to establish root cause.

Additional
* Experience in the design of industrial machinery would be of benefit but is not a prerequisite.
* The role may require occasional travel within the UK and overseas.
* Awareness of Quality systems (eg ISO 9001).
* Good abilities with MS Project, Excel, Word & Powerpoint
