Lead Hardware Engineer - Aerospace

Opportunities have arisen within one of the world's largest Aerospace companies for Lead Electronics Design and Development Engineers based in Cheltenham.

Successful candidates will be technical role models, providing guidance and leadership to teams developing state-of-the-art avionics products and systems for civil and military aircraft across the world.

ROLE AND ACTIVITIES

- Provision of technical leadership to the hardware development team
- Responsible for ensuring the technical integrity of the hardware throughout the development life cycle (Planning, Requirements Capture, Conceptual Design, Detailed Design, Integration, Verification, Qualification and Certification)
- Lead hardware trade study and technology evaluation activities
- Lead hardware technical reviews and participate in program review
- Ensure hardware development activities are aligned with best practice, internal processes and regulatory authority guidance
- Provide hardware technical/domain advice to internal and external customers
- Coach and mentor junior engineers
- Support products through qualification and into production
- Review and generate technical documentation consistent with engineering policies and procedures
- Identify technical risks and manage the associated mitigation strategies

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

- Demonstrable experience within an engineering leadership position
- A background in electronics design and development
- Technological proficiency, including the use of relevant engineering tools such as DOORS, MATHCAD, Visio, Dimensions)
- Able to clearly formulate and communicate complex and abstract design concepts
- Experienced across the product life cycle, including project planning, derivation of hardware requirements from product-level requirements, verification and validation
- The confidence, flexibility and risk management skills to develop new approaches and solutions
- Used to working within a recognised quality system
- Working knowledge of regulatory authority guidance for complex electronics hardware (DO-254)
- Experience of qualification testing products to DO-160
