Overall Purpose of the Job

The purpose of this role is to provide the Radar/RF System and hardware expertise and technical lead on equipment being upgraded; which is deployed to XXX Test & Evaluation Range operators.

Context:

The (XXX) exists to provide XXX with Test & Evaluation Range capabilities in the UK. Xxx maintains the capability and initiates new projects, as required, to address obsolescence in the equipment and development of new or enhanced capability.

The organisation undertakes specification, design, development, procurement, integration and acceptance of equipment that form part of the Maritime Test
- Building strong working relationships with end-users, subject matter experts and suppliers;
- Supporting the development and presentation of clear and compelling customer proposals;
- Eliciting, developing and managing requirements at user and system level;
- Developing and owning the architectures and designs to meet the agreed requirements and flowing them down to implementation;
- Providing engineering management and leadership, at the appropriate level, during the production and/manufacturing stages of development. Ensuring that the subsystem/components are produced to the required specification;
- Specifying and leading sub-system, system and user acceptance testing and supporting transition into service;
- Acting as the Design Authority for the equipment or system affected by the project;
- Supporting project design reviews at appropriate points in the life cycle against which to confirm the maturity of the project;

Role Dimensions (Finance/budgets; non-financial eg staff; workload, customers, accounts):

- Lead, develop and manage assigned technical and engineering staff;
- Undertaking activities to the required quality within the defined time and cost constraints;

Successful outcomes of this role:

- Safe delivery of projects to pre-determined time, quality/scope and cost;
- Satisfied customers and stakeholders that include Xxxs XXX Project Team, Range operators (end-users) and XXX representatives

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Essential Education, Qualifications and Training

- Degree in engineering, computer science or a pure science or equivalent qualifications or experience;
- SC cleared.
- Essential Knowledge, Skills and Experience Required
- Experienced Radar/RF systems engineer with a hardware background
- Recent experience of architectural design, sub-system design and specification, cost estimating, implementation, text and acceptance of radar type equipment
- Ability and willingness to be hands-on with system engineering tasks as part of the project (ie produce requirements, high level design and test specifications), especially in smaller or less complex projects;
- Ability to decompose complex issues to an appropriate level of detail, in a methodical manner;
- Ability to act as the System Design Authority for a project/equipment;
- Appreciation of diverse technologies;
- Good written and verbal communication skills

Desirable Criteria

- Knowledge of Test
- Previous experience of delivering complex Radar/RF Projects for the UK XXX.

Location

The role will be based at Portsdown (as the preferred site) or Farnborough.
