Lawyer - Commercial/Financial Services

Our client, a blue chip company based in York, require a Senior Lawyer to join their Legal team.

Purpose:
* To act as senior legal adviser, providing first class legal service including advice to UK Life businesses on all contractual and commercial issues.
* To provide oversight and advice on key legislative and common law developments affecting the UK Life business.
* To be the lead lawyer in negotiating commercial contracts and proactively monitoring and mitigating legal risks in accordance with the Group Legal & Company Secretarial Standard.
* To actively manage the instruction of external lawyers in accordance with the Supplier Protocol, with a view to minimising expenditure on external suppliers.

You must have:

Qualifications:
* Graduate or equivalent.
* A lawyer entitled to practice as a solicitor, barrister or legal executive in the UK or a relevant jurisdiction.

Experience:
* Senior lawyer with extensive post qualifying experience.
* Experience of dealing at senior management level.
* Proven ability to lead projects, negotiations and relationships with third parties and external advisers.

Skills/Knowledge:
* Strong technical knowledge of contract law, company law, insurance law and general commercial law areas of law
* Strong contract drafting skills, written communication and problem solving skills.
* Keen understanding of the needs of the business and our individual customers.
* Capable of working to tight timescales.
* Well organised with the ability to prioritise.
