LAN/Desktop Specialist

Summary:

Responsible for installing and supporting network software and hardware and/or configures PC's, will image and deploy ~1200 machines.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Provides technical guidance and direction to users and troubleshoots problems.
Demonstrates an understanding of and anticipates clients' current and future needs.
Performs miscellaneous technical and administrative tasks in support of the LAN or PC environment.
Updates all documents affected by change as directed (ie, following specific instructions).
Maintains documentation for historical records (eg, test cases and results; correspondence).
Submits documentation corrections to documentation department when errors are found.
Prepares memos to clients, management, programmers, and operations to keep them informed of issues (eg, project status, outstanding issues, research findings, procedural changes, client requests).
Documents solutions to production problems.
Reviews documentation for validity and detects simple errors.
Prepares documentation according to appropriate writing style.

Education: Bachelor's degree from a four year college or university in a related field.
Experience: 1-3 years experience with at least 1 year experience supporting LAN hardware and/or software; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of the basic operations and concepts involved with work station components, operating systems, software, and office automation application software
Knowledge of the concepts involved with supporting multi-segment LANs and specialized applications software
Knowledge of installed local PC/Workstation software facilities and utilities
Knowledge of how to identify and resolve moderately complex and non-standard problems by applying documented procedures
Knowledge of the basics of voice networking and systems
Knowledge of technical documentation standards and guidelines
Skill with support documentation tools in work environment
Ability to explain technical concepts to technical or non-technical personnel
Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, clients and public
