Laboratory Technician

Role Specifics

- The jobholder will undertake a variety of technical duties in accordance with relevant regulations and guidelines (GLP, HSE and Control of Substances Hazardous to Health).
- The individual will have an understanding of how assigned duties relate to the work of the team and how the team integrates with other departments to meet the objectives of Safety Assessment.
- The job holder will be open to giving and receiving information in an effective and professional manner. They will continually review and offer suggestions for improvement for technical and non-technical aspects of the job.
- They will take an active role in maintaining the structure, spirit and flexibility of the departments within Safety Assessment and understand how their own work impacts on others and the objectives of the business.
- They will understand and become competent in a variety of laboratory procedures and work as a member of the laboratory unit.
- The jobholder will be expected to apply concentration and attention to detail in making judgements based on analysis of information and work within well - defined guideline and regulations.

Key accountabilities

- Formulation of test compounds into a variety of dosage forms eg suspensions, solutions and capsules for administration to "in vivo ' and "in vitro" toxicological studies
- Checking of data and dispensing of prepared material against the requirements of individual studies and regulatory standards
- Maintaining high standards of housekeeping in the unit
- Preparation of vehicle and buffers
- Train in the use of pestle and mortar, homogeniser, ultrasonic bath, pH meter, osmometer and other general laboratory equipment
- Ensure that all activities carried out in the unit are performed according to the principles of GLP
