Lab Technician

We are seeking a Lab Technician for a 5 month contract position in Carol Stream, IL. The purpose of this position is to provide accurate and timely testing of packaging and packaging materials. Accurately document and report results in a timely manner.

Skills:

A high school diploma is required. A two-year Associate's Degree in business or science or equivalent laboratory experience is required. Two to three years of prior paper, packaging, laboratory, testing experience or equivalent formal education is required. Computer experience using Microsoft Office products is essential. Good written and verbal skills are required. An understanding and ability to perform basic (average, range, min, max, standard deviation, regression, t-test, graphing) statistical analysis is desirable. Ability to interact in a professional, effective manner with customers and production employees is required. A self-motivated, "can-do" work ethic is a must. Good mechanical and visualization skills are required.

Responsibilities:

- Receive, record, store, track and dispose of samples and materials to be tested.
- Communicate with requesting parties and customers as necessary to clarify testing or technical assistance needs.
- Perform testing of paperboard and packaging materials according to TAPPI, ASTM, ISO or other accepted test methods. Maintain data in a central filing system.
- Report test results in a standard format in a timely and accurate manner. Prepare and publish non-routine technical reports.
- Perform basic statistical analysis of test results as appropriate.
- Perform routine equipment calibration checks and collaborative tests to ensure accurate test results.
- Request maintenance as required.
- Assist in planning and conducting training, presentations, lab tours and demonstrations.
- Assist in testing, analysis and reporting of Hazardous Materials Packaging certifications.
- Assist in planning and conducting plant trials
