Lab Optical Engineer Job

LAB OPTICAL ENGINEER needed for a one year CONTRACT opportunity with Yoh's client located in LAKE FOREST, CA.

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING:

- This position is a part of the RDSS Lab Services group and will directly collaborate with the project teams, meeting the project team's optical lab needs. Responsible for the safety of the optics set up and testing.
- The successful candidate will be responsible for completing Engineering Lab work requests as assigned by engineering teams and management.
- Perform preliminary validation and verification on products and subsystems.
- Identify/define, analyze/quantify problems with senior engineers.
- Electro-mechanical/optical assembly, standard electrical test equipment, reading standard parts drawing and familiarity with tolerances.
- Take on unfamiliar tasks and work effectively within tight schedule.

WHAT YOU NEED TO BRING TO THE TABLE:

- BSME with focus on optical engineering or related discipline
- At least one year hands-on experience using interferometry and optical alignment equipment, ability to read and understand drawings, procedures, technical documents and instructions and optical techniques.
- Requires knowledge of optics handling, cleaning, mounting and bonding techniques and experience working in clean room environment.
- Good knowledge of optics and optics system design. Familiar with Laser safety and the principles of Laser design.
- Some mechanical design experience using Pro/E. Microsoft Office knowledge.
- Good mechanical aptitude with ability to be an effective contributor to product development or standard product support activities.
- R&D lab environment experience in fabrication of prototype instrumentation, testing surgical microscopes, subsystems, using various mechanical measuring instruments, such as Instron (compression/tension tester), 3D SmartScope measurement system
- Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal skills.
- Preferred Qualifications: Medical device development environment experience LabView program Mechanical design experience using Pro/E or other 3D CAD system
