Junior Release Management Engineer

Yoh has a contract opportunity for a JUNIOR RELEASE MANAGEMENT ENGINEER to join our client in the Chesterfield, Missouri area.

Job Responsibilities:
- To execute software updates against an established supportability baseline, ensuring that contractual software update requirements are satisfied.
- Take instructions on how to "fix" an issue from the engineers and then "patch" the system at Level 1. Customer facing role to receive the fix from the technical team and to provide patch upgrades.
- Utilize technical knowledge to update and maintain the software revisions across the managed server estate, this will include but is not limited to the following:
- OS Patching - Microsoft (2003/2008), Linux (Red Hat) Solaris.
- Agent Updates - HPSA.
- Monitoring Agent Updates - Bespoke Savvis Agent.
- Firmware/PSP updates.
- To follow, and where applicable create standardized release management processes that can be used to apply software updates to Servers.
- Work closely with the scheduling resources to provide benchmarked throughput data that can enable to scheduling team to correctly plan maintenance windows.
- Working in conjunction with the scheduling team, ensure clients are kept up to date regarding the relative success/failure of the Release Management activities - ensuring all activities are logged in the Change Activity tool.
- Adhere to all overlapping processes when executing updates via Release Management.
- Produce management reports showing the status of the Release Management activities that have been undertaken each week.

Job Qualifications:
- Detailed working knowledge of Microsoft Operating Systems (Windows 2003 & 2008).
- Working knowledge of Active Directory, DNS and Microsoft Networking.
- Working knowledge of VMware and virtual environments.
- Exposure to one or more of the following, Citrix, Microsoft SQL, Exchange, ISA, and Netbackup, SCCM.
- Exposure to IIS and web server applications.
- Exposure to Microsoft Clusters.
- Exposure to Server monitoring.
- Possess analytical troubleshooting skills combined with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Be organized and be able to work under pressure.
- Be motivated and possess a 'can do' attitude.
- Proactive and energetic nature.
- A degree in IT, Microsoft professional qualifications or equivalent proven experience in a technical support role.
- Possess one to three (1 - 3) years of experience in a Desktop/Workstation/Server maintenance and troubleshooting role applying software releases in multi-server environment, with technology skills including but not limited to:
- Thorough understanding of Operating System patch management and execution across Windows/Linux/Solaris/ESX environments.
- Experience using Server Management architecture tools to deploy pre-defined updates - WSUS/HPSA/HPNA.
- Experience installing standard and none standard applications in line with documented instructions.
- Understanding of virtual operating environments - including knowledge of ESX 3.5 and 4.1.
- Understanding of Linux (Red Hat) and Solaris operating system with understanding of the applications that each respective Operating System would support - including but not limited to Apache, Oracle, MySQL.
- A broad knowledge of ITIL life cycles.
- Experienced in Network technologies - CISCO, Juniper.
- Previous experience applying firmware/psp update to Servers.
- BSc/BA Degree + three (3) years of appropriate work experience.
- ITIL Foundation Certified.
