Java UI Developer

JAVA UI SOFTWARE ENGINEER (CONTRACT)

We are looking for an experienced web software engineer to build a new Web workflow tool/framework to browse statistical data, including visualisation of charts and providing complex querying mechanisms. We are looking for a highly motivated, goal-oriented individual who will be responsible for developing stunning user interfaces and experiences for our software in a team environment. The candidate needs to be a focused, eager to learn, team player with a passion for technology and innovation.

REQUIRED SKILLS:

- Proven experience delivering solutions using Object Oriented Javascript and Java (Spring MVC, Spring Security).
- Proven proficiency in web development with experience in Javascript, BACKBONE ESSENTIAL, ExtJS, JQuery, Grunt, HTML5, Jasmine, Sass.
- Experience delivering Web 2.0 applications based on Restful Web Services using JSON.
- Experience with Grails/Groovy/Python/Ruby or any other Scripting languages is a plus
- Linux (UNIX) Scripting skills including familiarity with command line utilities.
- Basic database knowledge and ability to construct SQL or JDBC queries directly or via Java.
- Excellent communication skills both written and verbal are required in this role. The ability to present complex ideas in a convincing and understandable manner is a key skill as is the ability to quickly prototype practical solutions in software rather than simply in theory.
- Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment and also as part of cross-functional team in a Matrix managed organisation.
- Capable of accurately planning and scheduling own work with the ability to cope with changing requirements including multiple assignments and code bases. This includes the ability to estimate software development tasks accurately and when necessary to do work breakdown for other engineers.

DESIREABLE SKILLS:

- Java/J2EE programming skills including experience with XML, Web Services and data transformation techniques for data extraction and analysis.
- Experience with Flex an advantage
- Experience with Software Development tools eg JIRA, Confluence, Bamboo, Jenkins, Sonar.
- Experience and knowledge of database technology including emerging database technologies.
- Experience with open source software Apache, Tomcat, JBoss or Linux.
- Previous experience working in an Agile or Lean development environment eg SCRUM
- Business knowledge of Telco domain

EDUCATION/QUALIFICATIONS:

- BS in Computer Science or equivalent.
- 5+ years of experience
