Java Developer (Application Specialist)

Java Developer (experienced) at the University of Cambridge Management Information Systems Division (MISD), is being sought  to be responsible for the maintenance of the University's Virtual Learning Environment (VLE), using the open-source software "Sakai".

MISD hosts and supports the computing needs of the University Administrative Service, including major business applications such as Student Records, Finance and HR, and the VLE.

We are seeking a committed Java professional to join the VLE team for a fixed term of 18 months, who is used to working with a broad range of users in a dynamic environment.

You will be involved in providing technical helpdesk support, identifying and evaluating solutions, fixing and migrating code, applying patches, providing test notes, managing peripheral systems, liaising with server and network support, maintaining technical documentation, and querying the database.

You should have good communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to work in a team environment.   You must have hands-on Java development skill-sets and be able to demonstrate examples from previous assignments.   Previous Sakai experience would be an advantage.   This is an exciting opportunity within a successful end-user driven system.
