IT Support Engineer

Our high-visibility client is seeking a Support Engineer to join their computer operations team located in their Eastern Oregon data centers. In this role you will work directly with data center technical staff to solve difficult problems. You must possess strong troubleshooting and analytical skills. You will need to find root cause of complex problems and provide workarounds and corrective action. You will publish documentation and must be capable of driving changes with outside groups.

This role includes helping and training data center technicians through mentoring, publishing documented procedures and developing productivity tools. You will be considered back line support to the technicians who repair the systems.

This position requires you to operate independently with limited guidance from management. You will be expected to become knowledgeable of the services you support, develop domain expertise and collaborate with peer organizations to solve complex problems. You will be seen as someone who can represent the group when working on cross-functional projects and is capable of providing leadership to drive corrective action throughout the organization.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Provide leadership to junior members
- Perform hardware troubleshooting and component replacement
- Collaborate with outside teams to resolve customers issues
- Participate in on-call rotation and provide afterhours support as needed
- Create standard operation procedures and knowledge articles

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

- Associate's Degree in a technical field or equivalent experience
- 7-9 years of experience working in an IT support environment
- Experience working as a Linux/Unix System Administrator
- Fundamental understanding of network protocols
- Experienced writing scripts (KSH, Perl, Python, Bash)
- Strong understanding of x86/x64 hardware platforms
- Highly organized and able to coordinate with other team members
- Provide creative solutions to reoccurring problems and capacity demands.
- Must possess valid Driver's License and his/her own vehicle
- Must be capable of lifting 35 lbs.
- Some travel may be required

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

- Bachelor's Degree in a technical field of study
- Exposure to Linux internals and operating system fundamentals
- Ability to read core files and perform crash dump analysis
- Database Administration experience
