Position: Summer Internship - IT Development
Location: London
Salary: £21,000 pro rata
Duration: 3 months
Start date: Summer 2013

ROLE:
This IT Development Internship programme is designed to immerse you in the activities of IT Development at IG. Their business is enabled by technology, software is developed by small teams using Agile methodologies and XP practices.

The success of their product development and innovation is the result of a strong partnership; their award-winning trading platform and acclaimed insight news and analysis centre are web-based, complemented by native mobile and touch device applications. Their applications are developed with a strong focus on user experience, high performance, low latency and high availability.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
a) Graduate Internships in IT Development are full time positions that take place over the summer.
b) On commencing the programme, you will join a Development team for 3 months.
c) Interns are fully immersed in the day to day activities of IT Development.
d) You will receive hands-on training relevant to your role and have the opportunity to make a significant and lasting contribution.
e) You will be given the opportunities and responsibilities of a full time team member and expected to commit code on real projects.
f) Successful interns may be invited back to participate in the Graduate Trainee Scheme on completion of their degree.

ESSENTIAL SKILLS/EXPERIENCE:
a) Undergraduate or postgraduate in the penultimate year of study; or you are an undergraduate in the final year of study expecting to take a one year Masters.
b) You must be predicted to attain, or already have achieved, a minimum 2:1 degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a science-based course with an emphasis on numeracy and have a minimum of 300 UCAS tariff points (or equivalent).
c) A passion for programming and IT technologies.
d) Real-world programming experience, for example: open source projects, a significant university project or a commercial experience.
e) You must have experience in at least one of the following: Java, JavaScript or C++ as there will be a detailed test on your preferred language at the assessment centre.
f) Strong verbal and written communication skills (fluent English is essential).
g) An interest in financial markets and an understanding of their products.
Candidates will need to submit a CV and covering letter. The covering letter must include, Evidence of real-world programming experience (what you enjoyed and found challenging), Why you would like to work for the IG Group, What skills you will bring to the role and evidence of your understanding of financial services and IG's products.
Once your CV and covering letter have been received and reviewed, successful candidates will be asked to complete an online technical test. You will need to complete one test out of a choice of Java, JavaScript or C++.
