IT APPLICATIONS DATABASE ADMINISTRATOR
CONTRACT POSITION - ABERDEEN UK

ROLE CONTRACT DURATION & RATE

- The contract duration will be 12 months initially
- The contract rate will be dependent on skills 7 experience

ROLE REQUIREMENTS - SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

TECHNICAL

- Three or more years of direct DBA experience
- Five or more years of direct IT experience providing database support or application programming
- Exposure to SAP PI, Energy Components, Business Objects, SAP BI
- Experience in the design and management of database schemas
- Experience with SQL tuning and performance analysis
- Practical experience in monitoring and tuning a database to provide a highly available service
- The following experience would also be a distinct advantage:
- Applications support experience
- Proficiency with database design methodologies.
- Experience with data warehousing design and development tools and architecture Exposure to administration of Unix/Linux and/or Windows Servers
- Excel skills
- Datamodelling
- Oil & Gas experience

- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Highly motivated and self-reliant
- Good analytical, troubleshooting and problem solving skills
- Ability to make rational decisions under pressure

ROLE REQUIREMENTS - QUALIFICATIONS

- Computing Science degree, B.Sc. or M.Sc. or comparable education
- Non-computing education may be compensated with documented relevant experience of working in similar role for a production/operations facing IT organisation

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES

- Providing Oracle and SQL Server database design and tuning
- Datamodelling and design
- SQL tuning and monitoring to ensure system performance
- Schema creation and management
- The definition of capacity and growth requirements
- Participating as part of a global functional DBA team
- Using our clients change management processes to prevent production disruptions and outages
- Researching and recommending solutions that best meet business needs and Enterprise operational requirements
- Assisting in the evaluation of new technology to meet business needs
- Working with the various disciplines of IT to ensure services meet business needs
- Working with 3rd party vendors to ensure services meet business requirements
- Governance and management of production database views
- Assistance in the management of production data
- The provision of out of hours support via an on-call rota

ROLE OVERVIEW & DESCRIPTION

Our client, a SuperMajor oil & gas operator, require an IT Applications Database Administrator for an initial 12 month contract, based at their offices in Aberdeen, UK.

The holder of this role will provide database administration support for a defined set of UK databases and data sets for the UK E & P organization.  They will also be accountable for the support and management of critical databases within the Upstream UK Business Unit.  The majority of systems supported are used for hydrocarbon accounting, production management & reporting and field data capture & storage but support and management of other business applications is also required.
