ROLE: INVESTIGATION OFFICER

LOCATION: LONDON

DURATION: 12+ Months Initially with possible extension

ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

- The Cartels and Criminal Group (CCG) investigates potential cartel activity using both civil and criminal law powers including where appropriate, issuing decisions and imposing penalties under the Competition Act 1998 and conducting criminal prosecutions under the Enterprise Act 2002.
- To investigate, in appropriate circumstances:
- Suspected cartel agreements under the Competition Act 1998 ( CA98') and/or criminal cartel cases under the Enterprise Act 2002 ( EA02'), and
- Assist other areas of the CMA, the European Commission (EC) and European Competition Network members in investigating other breaches of competition where appropriate.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

- To plan, co-ordinate and conduct investigations into suspected cartel activity in collaboration with Assistant Director Investigators, Principal Investigation Officers and Senior Investigation Officers. In particular:
- To assist and advise the Group Director in making a timely decision about whether a case referred for investigation passes the CA98 s25 threshold or the EA02 s192 and should be allocated for a formal investigation.
- To assist, where appropriate, with applications to the High Court for search warrants.
- To assist with on-site investigations using formal powers under CA98 and/or EA02.
- To comply with statutory duties and procedural requirements in all investigatory activity.
- To analyse, assess and present to the team leaders, the evidence gathered in the course of an investigation identifying whether it is sufficient to proceed and to assist the team leader, as appropriate, in drafting appropriate documentation.

MINIMUM CRITERIA:

- Experience of carrying out searches for documentary evidence.
- Experience in analysing effectively large amounts of documentary and digital evidence and producing accurate schedules for use as evidence.
- Significant criminal or civil investigation experience in a fraud/cartels environment and to be professionalizing the Investigative Process (PIP) level 2 accreditation or similar.
- Significant experience of research and analysis of facts relating to companies and individuals.

Applicants must be the holder of a full clean driving license and will be required to drive as part of their role.
