Interim Head of Finance Operations

The Company

Robert Half is currently partnering with a Defence Sector client based in the South West to appoint an Interim Head of Finance Operations; this operating unit is responsible for providing equipment and support to the Armed Forces for current and future operations.

The operating unit acquires and supports through-life equipment and services ranging from ships, aircraft, vehicles and weapons to information systems and satellite communications, managing a multi-billion annual expenditure on new equipment and equipment support projects on behalf of the MoD.

As well as sustaining ongoing requirements including food, clothing, medical supplies and temporary accommodation, the operating unit works closely with industry through partnering agreements and private finance initiatives to seek and deliver effective solutions for Defence.

The Role

As part of this programme, the operating unit has embarked on an ambitious programme of significant change and modernisation to improve services, skills and governance both to the organisation and to the MoD. You will be responsible for developing, operating and maintaining the business case assurance process and providing advice on the deliverability of investment proposals to the Investment Approvals Committee, the operating unit Business Case Review Board and the Front Line Commands. You will also lead Finance Business Change and Transformation in the operating unit.

In addition, you will lead on developing the financial processes and mechanisms required to support the operating units future relationship with the MOD, including charging mechanisms.

You

The right candidate will be a qualified Accountant (ACA/CIMA/ACCA) with a successful track record of senior strategic financial management within large, complex and commercially focussed environments; you should ideally have experience of large scale capital investment appraisal. Demonstrable experience of delivering significant improvements in financial processes and skills will also be an advantage. Preference will be given to candidates with SC or DV Clearance.
