Infrastrucure Specialist-Systems Administrator

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Plan upgrades and other changes to the OEL environment
- Actively and pre-emptively determine possible failure faults and causes
- Provide Team Leaders/managers with input re: projects/direction when required
- Manage and resolve problems identified by users or monitoring software
- Work with change and problem management tools
- Provide technical assistance to the other members of the System Administration team and Share knowledge/experiences
- Hardware fault detection and correction - vendor liaising
- Liaise with customer accounts as required

MANDATORY SKILLS

- Strong Oracle Enterprise Linux System Administration experience.
- Strong OVM experience.
- Oracle DBA understanding
- Strong Scripting skills
- Strong problem determination skills
- Ability to work unsupervised on several issues concurrently
- Able to perform disk management functions such as extending logical volumes, creating file systems, mirroring disks
- Understanding and ability to manually rebuild a Kernel
- Proficient in TCP/IP
- Strong understanding of x86 hardware architectures
- Very comfortable with problem and change management practices
- Knowledge of IBM and non IBM disk subsystems and related device drivers (ESS, DS4xxx, DS8xxx, SVC, XIV, EMC, MPIO, SDDPCM, PowerPath)
- Knowledge of IBM System p hardware products
- System firmware related skills
- DNS/NTP/SMTP/DHCP skills
- Good Documentation Skills/Technical Documentation
- Performance Monitoring and trouble-shooting.
- Sound Scripting skills
- Able to perform Operating System and Production Upgrades
- Ability to supervise others
- Liaise with Vendor
- Strong understanding and awareness of UNIX/Linux system security
- Strong communication skills - both verbal and written

DESIRED EXPERIENCE

- Demonstrated Solaris or Oracle virtualisation
- AIX System Admin experience
- Oracle database and clustering exposure
- Veritas (filesystem and cluster) experience
- Knowledge of IBM SSA disk subsystem
