Infrastructure Designer

We have an immediate requirement for a professional contract INFRASTRUCTURE DESIGNER for our key customer based in Cheshire. This opportunity will be on an initial 6 Month contract.

- The Principal Infrastructure Designer is responsible for defining change to the IT infrastructure layer and strategy, including Operating Systems, networking, database, messaging platforms, storage, security model etc. for the enterprise.
- For line management, the Infrastructure Designer reports to a Lead Infrastructure Designer, who in turn reports to the Principal Infrastructure Designer. On a day to day basis, they will work on project designs reporting to a Lead Infrastructure Designer.
- As projects require infrastructure to be built to meet their requirements the Infrastructure Designer is responsible for ensuring that any design/consultancy produced by him/her adheres to the current patterns, architecture and infrastructure strategy.
- As part of your design role you will also assist in the development patterns/standards/utilities with the engineering team as part of our framework for infrastructure standards.
- Infrastructure Design covers UNIX, Windows, Storage, IBM Mainframe, Tandem, Middleware, Networks, Security, Systems Management etc. This is not an exhaustive list but is intended to demonstrate the complexity and range of components that make up this infrastructure design project.
- Within this role you will provide solutions and consultancy for assignments of medium size (£500K ~ £2M) and above which are complex and critical in nature. The infrastructure designer will have a deep knowledge in more than one component and a broad knowledge of many other components.

KNOWLEDGE & EXPERTISE

- Awareness of industry best practices in IT
- Knowledge of IT structure and functions within CIO and the services and product set of the Group
- Conversant with IT architectures and design practices.
- Expected to keep abreast of emerging technologies and their potential for use
- Strong technology cost and value management

EXPERIENCE, QUALIFICATIONS AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS SPECIFIC TO THE ROLE

- Broad experience of IT infrastructure design and architectures
- Capable of bringing together expert knowledge from across the organisation and consolidating into a cohesive end-to-end design
- A forward thinker
- The ability to effectively communicate and sell complex IT solutions
- Experience in leading virtual teams in a complex IT environment
- Effective cost management and commercial awareness
- Focus on Risk Management including an understanding of Group policies

PREFERRED

- End-to-end infrastructure design experience
- Project delivery practices and methodologies
