Infrastructure Architect

Background
Capita are recruiting a Infrastructure Architect to join a central government department on a contract basis. This role is based in London. You will be required to use appropriate tools, including logical models of components and interfaces, to contribute to development and documentation of infrastructure architectures. Within a business change programme, assist in the preparation of technical plans and co-operate with business assurance and project staff to ensure that appropriate technical outputs are created.

Main Duties/Responsibilities
* Produce detailed specifications for infrastructure architectures, taking a holistic view of the intended uses of the architectures.. Develop product short-lists and evaluation criteria then use them in product selection. Translate component specifications into detailed designs for implementation using selected products.. Provide advice on technical aspects of infrastructure development and integration, including the operational and maintenance aspects of infrastructure proposals under development. Ensure that relevant technical strategies, policies, standards and practices are applied correctly.. Ensure that appropriate technical records are established and maintained. Advise on appropriate technical assurance criteria, and the conduct of quality reviews of technical products. Ensure the adequacy and effective use of quality control procedures.. Monitor technical progress, informing project management of major technical issues and making recommendations on their resolution. Advise on the impact of technical exceptions (including requests for changes, deviations from specifications, etc), and ensure that there is proper technical assessment of all exceptions. Provides advice on avoidance, containment and recovery actions.. Lead architecture developments for small to medium projects.. Contribute to formal reviews and evaluations when projects and programmes end.. Maintain an awareness of current developments in the technical specialism.

Skills and Experience Required
Network Focus of experience (Cisco CCIE qualified or equivalent)
- Excellent all round infrastructure knowledge particularly within the Video, Voice, Firewall, Packet shapers & Data Network spaces especially within environments utilising Virtualisation technologies
- Proven track record in large scale implementations and leadership thereof
- You will possess strong communications, relationship building, negotiation and influencing skills.
- Has an analytical and creative approach to problem solving.
- Is able to absorb new technical, commercial and business concepts quickly, and work with them.
- Has a sound and wide business knowledge and an understanding of current and emerging information and communications technologies and of how they can support and enhance the functions of the business.
- Has a good practical understanding of infrastructure project management
- Knowledge of TOGAF enterprise architecture frameworks Desirable
- Familiarity with PRINCE2 project management practice
- Familiarity with ITIL

Formal Qualifications Required
Networking Qualification to the equivalent of Cisco CCIE
