Eden Brown is currently recruiting for Independent Reviewing Officer to monitor that the local authority is meeting its statutory requirements in relation to its looked-after children, including those receiving short-break care, managed within the youth justice system, detained in secure accommodation, admitted compulsorily to hospital, and unaccompanied asylum seeking children.

You need ensure there is an effective care plan for each looked-after child, and that the care plan fully reflects the child's current needs and that the actions in the plan are consistent with the local authority's legal responsibilities towards the child.

You need to hold Chair the review meetings for looked-after children, ensuring that care plans are based on a detailed and informed assessment and provide a genuine and effective response to each child's needs; identify any gaps in the assessment or the provision of services and take action to prevent drift in care planning.

You must ensure that looked-after children are encouraged and supported to make a meaningful contribution to their review meetings where appropriate, and ensure that the voice of the child is actively promoted and their wishes and feelings are fully considered in the meeting and in their care planning.

Monitor and evaluate the quality of services to looked-after children and care leavers by scrutinising practice, care planning and case management, and constructively challenge casework where there is drift in delivering the child's care plan, or the planned actions are no longer appropriate or effective in meeting the child's needs.

You need to support the continual development of children's social care services by actively contributing to quality assurance activity and the implementation of new statutory requirements and guidance, as well as sharing learning from evidence-based practice and reviews in relation to services for looked-after children and care leavers.

To contribute to the development of effective corporate parenting arrangements through effective engagement with the Corporate Parenting Group and, where appropriate, the Children in Care Council.
