INDEPENDENT REVIEWING OFFICER

£30 - £35 PER HOUR LTD

FULL TIME - 35 HOURS PER WEEK

SOUTHEND-ON-SEA, ESSEX

TEMPORARY 3 MONTH CONTRACT

THIS ROLE REQUIRES AN ENHANCED CRB ISSUED WITHIN THE LAST 12 MONTHS TO BE IN SITU PRIOR TO START.

Southend Borough Council are seeking an Independent Reviewing Officer to join a team providing key quality assurance functions in ensuring that looked after children and children with a child protection plan are safe and achieve the five outcomes of Every Child Matters. You will have at substantial experience of child care work, and experience of chairing meetings involving children, families and practitioners. MAIN PURPOSE OF THE JOB

To review the cases of children who are looked after as laid down in Care Planning, Placement & Case Review Regulations England 2010 and Statutory Guidance and Adoption and Children Act 2002 and take all necessary decisions to confirm the Care Plan. Undertake systematic audits on aspects of work within the Department and advise senior management on recommendations for improvement.

Chair Child Protection Conferences in line with Working Together to Safeguard Children and Local Safeguarding Children Board procedures.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

- CQSW, DipSW, CSS or equivalent
- GSCC Registration
- A thorough knowledge of the relevant legislation, guidelines, research and best practice in relation to Child Protection and Looked after Children
- Substantial experience of child care work (within a statutory setting or voluntary setting), including experience of undertaking child protection investigations, court work, child 'looked after' planning and direct work with children and families
- Experience of chairing multi-agency meetings
- Experience of facilitating participation of children and young people in care planning
- Experience of working with children with disabilities, and their families, and families from a variety of ethnic and cultural backgrounds
- Experience and skill in supervising staff
