HV Systems Test Engineer - SC

An high profile contract position has arisen with my client, a leading name in modern technology. In this position you will be required to Validate HV/LV Power systems against customer requirements and certification standards such as BS EN 7671.

You will need knowledge in safe working practices, FAT and SAT tests, Systems Test plans to ensure this High Power unit is acceptable to deliver to the clients customers.

This position covers many disciplines ranging from prime power distribution systems, power electronics' switching, Microprocessor based control systems (inc software - Embedded and GUI) and high power radio frequency (RF) topologies.

Main Accountabilities:

Cost estimating, design and documentation capture of test equipment/jigs for product development, test and manufacture. This is to include compliance to European harmonised legislation (CE).

Produce test procedures and verification plans/matrices to compile documented evidence of product compliance. Test plans for both electrical and RF performance are required.

Have competence in producing technical designs that meet customer requirements, whilst maintaining equipment design safety, affordability and ease of manufacture.

Evaluate proto-type designs of components, sub-assemblies and systems - to ensure they meet design criteria. Such items may be sourced from external suppliers and require system integration before test. Feedback results to project stakeholders in a manner that is relevant to the audience.

Assist in supporting system documentation capture so that new product introduction transfers to a production environment seamlessly.

Work with the engineering team to identify areas of improvement of the product through the development phase.

Identify possible opportunities for automation of development and or production test through the product development phase.

Plan and undertake the testing activities to confirm compliance of systems against the specification. This includes undertaking Factory and Site acceptance testing to ensure the timely commissioning of new products and systems.

Identify and resolve system problems using proven methodical electrical/electronic fault diagnostic techniques.

Provide effective (accurate and timely) product performance feedback to project/management and technical authority teams.

Identification of complex patterns in development test data and its influence on device performance.

Review product designs to ensure suitability for testing (design for test) and development of appropriate test documentation.

This position may on occasions require UK and overseas travel which may be customer facing.

Ideal Experience:

HNC/HND in electrical/electronic engineering or proven experience.
High power RF knowledge and creating specifications for RF measurement test systems.
Competent working with both low voltage and high voltage (high power) systems.
Appreciation of HVAC systems and distribution techniques (able to apply safe working).
Familiarisation with IEEE wiring regulations BS EN 7671 (+A1:2011) an advantage.
Demonstrable competence of live test and inspection techniques and safety awareness.
Fluent with risk assessment processes.
Familiarisation of equipment thermal management cooling systems (water/Glycol/forced air) and associated monitoring an advantage.
Ability to work from provided documentation - electrical schematics - BoM's - procedures etc.
Competent in the use of AutoCad (ideally AutoCad Electrical) as a design/capture tool.
The ability to take on technical work packages with minimal supervision.
Writing system test plans, sub system level test plans, FAT & SAT.
Competent with electronic and electrical assembly techniques.
Good manual dexterity and attention to detail, focussing on quality timely results.
Able to maintain detailed working notes on a daily basis.
Familiarity with Microsoft office tools and SAP.
Able to work well within a close team environment - offering support to others as required.
An appreciation of electrical (including 'fail safe' design methodology), ionising radiation, non-ionising radiation and electromagnetic safety requirements.
