The HR Adviser will provide verbal and written advice on a range of HR and employee relations issues including pay and conditions of service, disciplinary and grievance matters, equality issues, management of sickness absence, recruitment and selection, pensions and retirement and the general application of the council's employment policies and procedures.Main Responsibilities
- Advise on a range of employee relations matters including the application and interpretation of pay and conditions of service and the council's employment policies and procedures.
- Support managers in dealing with disciplinary and grievance issues, the management of sickness absence, capability dismissals and retirement and fair treatment at work cases.
- Foster effective working relationships with local trade union representatives to facilitate a positive employee relations climate.
- Oversee the administration of maternity leave, and provide advice to managers on statutory and organisational obligations.
- Assist in the development, roll - out and monitoring of employment policies and procedures and management guidance and participate in the equality impact assessment process as necessary.
Qualifications, Skills and Knowledge
- Graduate membership of the CIPD or equivalent professional HR management qualification
- Extensive HR experience within sickness/absence management
- HR experience gained within a unionised organisation
- Proficient in the use of Microsoft office systems
