HMI Systems Engineer

Yoh has an excellent contract opportunity for an HMI SYSTEMS ENGINEER to join our client located in Erie, PA.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Responsible for Design and development of control systems and Human Machine Interfaces (HMI) at subsystem and system level.
- HMI Design would require concepts that include studies of human factors, cognitive psychology and usability testing.
- In this role the engineer will work with industry agencies as well as customers to identify and capture requirements.
- The engineer will utilize experience or expertise to solve problems, develop and execute objectives for self and others, and effect short-term and some long-term business goals.
- Define requirements and interfaces for HMI and Train Control systems for the locomotive.
- Design, integrate, implement and validate Train Control subsystem functions, Human Machine Interface for locomotive, suitable for application in both English and non-English speaking environments.
- Execute the design, analysis, or evaluation of assigned projects using sound engineering principles and adhering to business standards, practices, procedures, and product/program requirements.
- Lead/Support investigation, root-cause identification, and resolution of reliability issues.
- Interact with internal and external customers, vendors, and industry agencies.
- Provide technical leadership to personnel supporting the assigned project.
- Document technical data generated by the assigned project consistent with engineering policies and procedures.
- Provide timely communications on significant issues or developments.
- Participate on teams assigned to address organizational initiatives and generic issues.
- Participate as a presenter or reviewer in technical and program reviews.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

- Bachelor of Science in Electrical or Computer Engineering.
- At least 1 (one) year of experience in an engineering position.
- Experience with serial and/or Ethernet communication.
- Experience in human factors, simulating or implementing Human Machine Interfaces.
- Ability and willingness to work "hands-on" in test labs and on locomotives with high HP (1000 KVA), medium voltage (2 KV) and high current (10 KA) systems.

PREFERRED JOB SKILLS/CERTIFICATIONS/KNOWLEDGE:

- Masters in Engineering
- Experience with system and component level validation testing.
- Experience with transportation/locomotive systems, control, diagnostics, design and test.
- Experience with Human Machine Interface and human factors analysis for Embedded systems .
- Experience with Design For Six Sigma (DFSS) tools (ie FMEA, Score Cards).
- Strong technical aptitude, including applicable engineering tools and systems.
- Solid oral and written communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal and leadership skills.
