Role: AML High Risk Periodic Review Analyst

Business Function: AML

Reports to: AML High Risk Manager

Business Division: Business Risk & Controls

Purpose of Role: To Review, Update and Assess all AML high risk clients on an annual basis and ensure that the file is accurate, up to date and then sign the file off for the next review period.

Deliverables:

- Complete all Periodic Reviews in a timely and complete manner through using appropriate systems and engaging with the RM's and where required, customers to obtain further information. Ensure customer data is updated as required confirming it is correct to AML standards required
- Upon completion of the above make a decision as to whether RBS should continue the relationship with the customer or not and document this appropriately.
- Investigate customer information using a mix of, data providers such as Experian, CIFAS, MarketIQ, public information such as companies house, Internet searches etc. and RM and ARM verbatim information to make a decision on the risk of a customer.
- Assess the AML risk of a customer and update this in the systems and undertaking the necessary action, which would have been completed at on-boarding, to bring the AML information up to date.
- Prioritise & proactively manage own workflow to ensure departmental service standards are achieved
- Authority held to sign-off High Risk AML Clients or to propose exiting the relationship on grounds of AML concerns.
- Acquire and maintain technical and professional skills at a level adequate to effectively manage AML risk through obtaining/holding relevant qualification and maintaining through CPD activity.
- To identify problem cases and recommend appropriate courses of action to minimise risk to RBS or pass to the complex team for review.

The result being that RBS's high risk customers are effectively reviewed regularly and upon a change to their circumstances to ensure that AML information is correctly held for that customer, it is accurate and that RBS are able to continue a relationship with the customer.

Experience:

Personal

- Good communication skills, both oral and written
- To be structured and organised to ensure completion of reviews in a timely and complete manner
- A 'Can do' attitude and an aim to finding solutions to complete all reviews.
- Ability to work discreetly & sensitively when dealing with business/staff sensitive matters, which may include exposure to a number of confidential &/or sensitive areas
- Ability/aptitude to challenge on process, procedural & operational issues where clarity needed &/or where simplification required
- Creativity skills to resolve complex problems and/or identify alternatives where established procedures may not exist.
- Aptitude for technology and finance.

Business Knowledge

- Hold or obtain within first 6 months ICA certificate in AML (or equivalent)
- Good knowledge of different company structures, the reasons why they exist and how to identify them and the impact of AML on this
- Good knowledge of AML in-life Policy and Procedures

Other Significant Role Requirements:

- To be a central point of excellence/SME for AML/STF.
- To become accredited internally and hold accreditation with required CPD and BSA
- Plan & implement suggestions & ideas to develop Operations & to maintain & ensure continuous improvement in line with governance and internal/external regulations
- At times support other AML teams in the wider business area such as On-Boarding and Event Driven Reviews.

Scope of Role:

To complete all AML High Risk Periodic Reviews, equating to c.9,000 a year split across the team.

This review consists of:

- Annual reviews on all High Risk customers, to assess and update all AML on-boarding activity, re-perform adverse media checks and decide if new AML information is required with the ultimate aim to make a decision as to whether RBS should continue the relationship or exit the customer.
