Hedge Fund Tax Specialist

One of the largest privately-owned hedge funds in the world is seeking a Tax Specialist with 3-5 years of experience working with Mutual Funds or Regulated Investment Companies (RICs), and/or investment tax-related special projects. Primary Responsibilities: 1 a. Specific Tax Responsibilities: (i) assisting RIC tax personnel with both U.S. and non-U.S. tax projects and being a subject-matter expert for certain RIC tax special projects (e.g., swap derivative tax adjustments) (ii) performing detail reviews of tax compliance as it pertains to RIC tax filings and calculations (e.g., tax returns, excise tax distribution calculations, financial statement disclosures, passive foreign investment company calculations, derivative gain/loss calculations) (iii) researching (i.e., using research software) and gathering information (e.g., debt offering materials) used to research U.S. and non-U.S. tax matters 2 b. Multi-Task Approach: handling several RIC tax projects at once by managing priorities, including using internal and external resources efficiently and effectively 3 c. Collaboration with Internal Groups: working closely with internal groups (e.g., fund Financial Reporting, Compliance, Legal, and Shareholder Services) 4 d. Independent Worker and Thinker: working independently, including identifying issues and developing solutions without extensive assistance from others 5 e. Detailed Documentation Skills: documenting conclusions and tax positions in an organized and easy to follow format for internal and external review.
