Hedge Accounting Manager - Contract

OUR CLIENT, A LARGE BANKING ORGANISATION IS LOOKING TO RECRUIT AN EXPERIENCE HEDGE ACCOUNTING MANAGER TO JOIN A LARGE TREASURY FUNCTION.

The Treasury function is to assist the bank in meeting its desired capital and funding & liquidity targets within its structural market risk appetite, whilst providing the appropriate flexibility to accommodate strategic objectives.

The Treasury Finance ­- Hedge Accounting within the Treasury Function is currently a team of 2 people who are responsible for all aspects of hedge accounting. The main aim is to minimise P&L volatility. This mainly arises from derivatives put in place to manage interest rate risk in the mortgage, lending, current account and deposit portfolios. However, there will also be some derivatives to manage interest rate risk within Treasury itself - liquidity portfolio, subordinated debt and share capital/reserves for example.

In addition to that, there is also a requirement to create new hedge accounting models to assist in the management of P&L volatility prior to the planned IPO. This includes putting in place appropriate processes, procedures and documentation which will be required for later BAU activity.

ACCOUNTABILITIES

- Manage the development  of appropriate models for strategy implementation
- Maintain/update the hedge accounting models
- Source model inputs and run models
- Prepare and update weekly hedge rebalancing exercise
- Prepare/post monthly hedge accounting entries
- Prepare monthly MI analysis explaining effectiveness of P&L volatility management
- Produce ad-hoc hedge accounting reports as required by the senior management
- Ensure that BAU process and controls are adhered to and proper audit trail is maintained
- Assist in the provision of technical accounting advice (hedge accounting related) when necessary

KEY KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS

- Qualified accountant
- Hedge accounting experience is essential with solid understanding of the IAS 39 hedge accounting requirements and its application
- Knowledge of treasury products gained in a banking environment an advantage
- Proficient with Microsoft Excel
- Attention to detail
- Team player, diligent and able to cope with tight deadlines
