Our high profile Public Sector Client requires a Policy Officer, specialising in Health, for a 3 months FTC based in Central London.

This role is within the External Affairs directorate and you will report to the Policy Development Manager (Health).
The External Affairs team sits within the External Affairs & Insight (EA including on the Influencing Plan and the plans to scope out work relating to providing Private Healthcare following private cosmetic interventions;
* In the absence of the Policy Development Manager, contribute to health related policy and CBP-related work including working as required with the Interim Director of External Affairs (and other relevant managers across the Organisation);
* Maintain strategic alliances and relationships with key and senior stakeholders;
* Provide excellent secretariat support as required to a portfolio of regular and ad hoc liaison meetings, such as meetings with Client's sponsor bodies, meetings between the Client and permanent secretaries, chief executives of government agencies or senior officials in the Health Service. This support will include preparation of briefings, taking notes, and undertaking appropriate follow-up action/communications.

Key Accountabilities
* Actively support the work to develop a position for Client regarding Private Health;
* Act as the first point of contact in the health policy team, exercising judgement and responding appropriately to internal and external approaches, clarifying what is expected, providing advice or a response on behalf of the team and proactively proposing courses of action/recommendations for agreement by the Client, as appropriate;
* Contribute to the maintenance of health related contact data in the Client's stakeholder database (Engage);
* Ensure competing demands are managed, work is correctly prioritised, and deadlines are met including regarding papers for the Leadership Team and Unitary Board
* Leading on health-related contributions to The Grid, ensuring that it is accurate; (NB: The Grid is a planning tool to help the Client monitor developments in the external
* Assist in sourcing, analysing and evaluating information across a range of subjects, and identifying and summarising key data and the implications of the analysis in order to recommend actions to staff;
* Ensure that the Client is prepared for health related meetings, presentations and speeches by researching and contributing to briefings and documents including, where appropriate, briefing senior staff;
* Coordinate the activities of the External Affairs team with the Client and Chief Operating Officer's Executive Assistants;
* Develop effective networks across the Office, and is alert to potential policy implications of activities elsewhere in the organisation;
* Maintain appropriate technical knowledge (eg awareness of the introduction of new NHS structures from April 2013) and seeks to continuously develop an understanding of the external context within which the Client works to enable cross office working and contribute to wider Client objectives;
* Contribute to EA
* Experience of providing secretariat support for senior management meetings;
* Experience of project management;
* Good analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills, with the ability to propose credible recommendations;
* Focuses on delivery of results, identifying outputs and priorities clearly, and achieves value for money.
Supporting the business
* Good knowledge or understanding of the workings of central government and/or the NHS;
* Knowledge or understanding of the role of a Regulator/Ombudsman function and/or the administrative justice landscape;
* Draws on experience and new ideas to improve results;
* Open to change and able to manage it effectively.
